On October 13 and 14, 2016, Sergio Gargioni, president of the Brazilian National Council of State Funding Agencies (CONFAP), will have a busy agenda in Belgium, culminating with the signing of an agreement with the European Commission. Involving CONFAP and the European Commission, this Implementing Arrangement will provide research opportunities in Europe for Brazilians, among other goals.
“Both sides recognize the importance of promoting the development of specific scientific and technological cooperation programmes as well as activities related to the exchange of scientific experience”, says the agreement.
It fosters active Postdoctoral Grantees from the State Funding Agencies (FAPs), from the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) and from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), to pursue research collaboration with Principal Investigators already supported through EU-funded European Research Council (ERC) grants. Brazilian active Postdoctoral grantees from FAPs, CAPES and CNPq will continue to receive their salaries and/or scholarship according to their institutional terms and conditions. Through this collaboration, the participant FAP will also provide support for travel expenses. In case of a long-term visit (6 months or longer), travel expenses of accompanying family members may also be covered by the participant FAP.
The Implementing Arrangement will be signed by Gargioni and Carlos Moedas, EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, in a ceremony scheduled for 12h at Berlaymont. Before that, at 11hs, CONFAP president will have a meeting with Cristina Russo, Director for International Cooperation at DG RTD. After, at 15h, he will meet Bodo Richter, Deputy Head of Unit at DG ECA B3, responsible for the programme MSCA (Marie Curie Actions). The last meeting Thursday will be with Chistopher Gauci (Policy Officer) on National Contact Points.
Friday, at 10h, Gargioni will present CONFAP priorities in international cooperation and have a round table about Nanotechnology, Renewable Energy, Health, Bioeconomy, Transport and Climate Change.
